MY STORY
My name is Charles Welsh. My work combines lifelong experiences of interacting with music, craft, and culture to create an eclectic volume of work ranging from traditionally illustrated art and design pieces to psychedelic graphical compositions inspired by my upbringing in a household overflowing with creativity.
Growing up in Seattle, WA, surrounded by my mom’s design firm, Blindtiger Design, and a family legacy of artists, designers, musicians, and painters, I developed a natural ability to solve problems and communicate through art and design. When my twin brother and I formed a band, Welsh & Company, it not only allowed me to pursue my creativity through music but also gave me a platform to design merchandise and posters and push my artistic expression further. The central theme in my work is communication.
My creative process is always fueled by the need to communicate a message with my creativity expressed across an intersection of custom typography, illustration, color, composition, and a variety of physical mediums. I’m passionate about the challenge of working within constraints, such as deadlines and specific design formats, which push me to be both efficient and innovative. My approach to art and design is results-oriented and I focus on communicating the message within the time and best resources available. This means I’m working on multiple projects at once, across various mediums, each with its own unique problems to solve. I continually strive to refine my ability to communicate through design, constantly learning from masters of the past and present. Pursuing a career in design allows me to further develop this language of visual communication while drawing inspiration from my family’s legacy of problem-solving through art.
